Fairview Montessori got its start in the home of owner/director Shannon Ryland in 1991 and moved to its current location in historic downtown Louisville, CO in 1994. Shannon, a graduate of Florida State University with a B.S. in Elementary Education, teaches the kindergarten and gives tours by appointment. She received her Montessori certification in 1991 and is director qualified in Colorado. FMS does not discriminate on the basis of race, creed, color, sex, religion, or age in any aspect of its operations, and we’ll accommodate children with special needs if our teachers and facilities can do so effectively. OUR TEACHERS Our lead teachers have a combined total of over 35 years teaching experience at the early childhood level. All received their Montessori early childhood credentials from the Montessori Education Center of the Rockies, which is affiliated with the American Montessori Society and accredited by MACTE, the Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education. OUR PHILOSOPHY As Montessori educators, our role is to prepare the learning environment and to encourage and inspire each child to explore it. We believe that children absorb information from their surroundings almost effortlessly in an attempt to make sense of their world and the people within it. Given the right materials, children demonstrate a love of repetition and order; given freedom of choice, children act on an innate desire to learn, preferring purposeful work to play; given respect, children develop self-esteem and give respect in return. Supposing I said there was a planet without schools or teachers, study was unknown, and yet the inhabitants - doing nothing but living and walking about - came to know all things, to carry in their minds the whole of learning: would you not think I was romancing? Well, just this, which seems so fanciful as to be nothing but the invention of a fertile imagination, is a reality. It is the child's way of learning. This is the path he follows. He learns everything without knowing he is learning it, and in doing so passes little from the unconscious to the conscious, treading always in the paths of joy and love. --Maria Montessori, MD |
